The Shift
If you haven’t noticed, the Democrats are radically shifting their behavior again. To anyone not living under a rock, it should not come as a surprise that progressives alter their behavior based on the political winds of the day. They are extremely nimble creatures. Some may even compare them to snakes, but I wouldn’t want to insult snakes. At least snakes understand the importance of remaining hidden. Democrats are letting their freak flags fly. They’re not fooling anyone at this point. If flip-flopping were an Olympic sport, no country could compete against our world-class political leaders.
Even Covidstan strongholds like New York are changing their tune on Covidstan. After two years of attempting to exterminate freedom, Democrats are now advocating for health freedom. What's interesting about this is that it seems like the Democrats have finally realized they can’t accomplish their goals this election cycle. Their political capital is depleting quicker than Putin’s defense budget, and it shows.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said Monday that choices about masks and vaccines should shift from the state back to individuals and localities as Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations ebb.
“Individuals should make their own decisions,” Hochul said following a weekend decision to lift an indoor school mask mandate on March 2. “Any locality can have stricter requirements than the state.”
Individual choice is back in style baby! Never mind that jab mandates that cost you or your loved ones’ jobs. Do your best to forget about the thousands of nurses who were fired over jab mandates. Now it’s all about that health freedom. Remember how masking in schools was a borderline cult-like issue for Democrats as recently as a month ago? They threw everything but the kitchen sink at Republicans who tried to dial back Covidstan.
When Virginia’s new governor Youngkin removed mask mandates for children in mid-January, Democrats squirmed like a worm under a flame. Parents sued the new governor. As recently as three weeks ago, kids were still being suspended for not wearing masks in Loudon County, Virginia. It was only 10 days ago that a judge ordered the school to remove the mandate.
Suddenly, Democrat strongholds are changing their tunes on the subject; strongholds like the CDC, for example. On Friday, the CDC changed the mask guidance in a dramatic fashion.
The new guidance puts more than half of the nation's counties at low or medium risk for Covid, meaning masks are no longer necessary there. Those counties account for roughly 70 percent of people in the country.
The guidance changes also touch on the topic of school masking.
Although masks have been required in many school districts around the country, the CDC is including schools in the new guidance because children are at lower risk for severe illness, Massetti said. The agency only recommends universal mask use in schools in communities at the high risk level.
For what feels like the millionth time, the goalposts are moving as the political winds pick up speed. With Biden’s State of the Union speech right around the corner, they even removed mask mandates for Congress.
The change, which makes masks optional, was announced Sunday by Capitol Physician Brian Monahan.
"Individuals may choose to mask at any time, but it is no longer a requirement," he said in a letter to lawmakers, who are returning Monday to Capitol Hill.
While the guidance has changed, the door to Covidstan remains unlocked. Biden extended the U.S. national emergency declaration for the COVID-19 pandemic a little over a week ago. Your lives are still very much controlled by the always-changing whims of bureaucrats. Thankfully, they’re scared of you.
The Reason
With the war in Ukraine waking up Americans to the reality of what an actual emergency looks like, Democrats are panicking right now. Biden was already upside down in all but 4 of the 50 states prior to the invasion of Ukraine. These numbers are catastrophic. The Trafalgar Group’s generic ballot poll from January 2022 showed Republicans with a 13 point advantage. The political storm bearing down on Democrats in 2022 is going to be massive. If those are the January numbers, I can’t wait to see what February and March numbers look like after people factor in the debacle in Europe.
Jab mandates are increasingly unpopular:
Updated polling from Morning Consult shows that approval of mandatory vaccinations sank to all-time lows during the week ending Feb. 6. While half of the public supports the mandates set by businesses, down from a high of 61% in September, only slightly more, 53%, support mandates in schools. That is down from a high of 66% in August. Public support for President Joe Biden’s embattled federal mandates hit 54%, down from its high of 66% in September.
Covidstan is crumbling, and so is Joe Biden’s presidency. Democrats bit off way more than they could chew during the pandemic. The donkey-affiliated politicians are now running from the very policies they enforced for the better part of two years. In my opinion, it will be too late. Covidstan is a deeply unpopular hot potato, and they will be the ones left holding it in November. No matter how many governors repeal their own emergency measures, people will remember.
Update (5:42pm - 2/28/21):
California, Washington, and Oregon join New York in removing school mask mandates.
According to Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom’s official website, “[a]fter 11:59 p.m. on March 11, California, Oregon and Washington will adopt new indoor mask policies and move from mask requirements to mask recommendations in schools.”
